Samba Reggae is a music and dance genre created in Salvador, Bahia by Afro-Brazilians during the 1970s. It arose in the context of the Black Pride Movement (Movimento Negro) in response to Black Brazilians not being allowed to participate in the Rio samba schools and parades. A mixture of Brazilian samba with Jamaican reggae, Samba Reggae music and dance was born.
