This class is open to any dancer wishing to deepen their practice of Contemporary/Modern Dance. The instructor will briefly check-in with each new student at the beginning of class, to gauge their experience level. Throughout class, the instructor will offer different versions of class material whenever appropriate, to suit the individual levels of the students. Class will begin with a Somatic exercise to orient the mind to the rest of the body. It will then move into a standing technical practice to lubricate the joints, strengthen the abdominal muscles and prepare for more athletic movement across the floor. Class will finish with a final piece of choreography that will be developed from material explored that day. Dancers will improve the functional awareness of their anatomy, and move with virtuosity and curiosity. Beginning level dancers, intermediate and advanced movers, and professional dance artists are all welcome.
