Feel younger and more agile with basic ballet movements. Ballet increases circulation, improves overall mobility, and helps with focus and memory. Beginning with standing warm-ups near a wall or with a chair, Marika will gently lead the class through traditional ballet, with humor and ease.

This class will build on the technique and vocabulary learned in the beginning level, with an emphasis on moving beautifully from one step to another. This class will work to incorporate breathing, coordination, musicality, and movement quality into the technique. Students should wear ballet slippers and form-fitting dancewear. Leotard and tights are ideal, but students may adjust their attire so that they are comfortable.

This Beginning Pointe class is for students new to pointe work. We will be working on strengthening exercises, both in and out of pointe shoes, primarily at the barre. Students without any pointe experience may take the class on demi-pointe. Men are welcome. Students should have studied ballet for a minimum of three years before considered for pointe, unless coming in from another studio; then a personal consultation is required. Students MUST take the 6:15pm Advanced Beginning technique class that precedes this class. Students should wear ballet slippers and form-fitting dancewear. Leotard and tights are ideal, but students may adjust their attire so that they are comfortable.

Increase mobility, flexibility, and balance - and relieve chronic aches and joint stiffness with this slow and gentle, flowing, dance-based full-body workout. The class begins with standing stretches based on ballet, tai chi, and yoga, followed by simple strengthening exercises on the floor.
Marika Brussel has been teaching dance to people of all ages for over 15 years. She studied on scholarship at the Joffrey Ballet School and at the High School of Performing Arts in New York City. She performed with Joffrey Concert Group, Ballet Theatre of New Mexico, Napoles Ballet Theatre and Alameda Ballet, dancing Principle roles in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Swan Lake, Romeo and Juliet, and Retazos. Her choreography has been commissioned by ballet companies around the country, including Arc Dance Seattle & Bay Pointe Ballet. Marika has worked with students from age 2 through 101. She teaches dance to people with Parkinson's, and dementia. She believes that the arts have the power to transform lives. She strongly feels that all bodies can tell a story through their movements, and that everyone can gain confidence, ease, and intense joy through dancing.
