MY STORY

Luz Mena is a cultural geographer, dance and music instructor and performer. Her research explores how space dynamics and dance movements articulate meanings related to gender, race, class and other social difference. Co-directs ANDARES, and international and multidisciplinary art project seeking social justice in El Salvador. Has been trained in Latin America, Spain and the United States in a wide gamma of dances, including Afro-Cuban, Afro-Brazilian, Cuban popular, jazz, modern-contemporary, flamenco, tap, and ballroom. Luz specializes in teaching Latin American rhythms with an emphasis on cultural expression. Has been a member of Arenas Dance Company since 2009.
