About Lorena Valenzuela Tabije

Originally from Guadalajara, Mexico, Valenzuela stumbled across a West African dance class when she first moved to California, and immediately fell in love with the form and culture. After studying West African dance for more than a decade, she traveled in 2014 to Guinea for a six-week immersion in the folklore, culture and traditions of the dance forms. She returned to Guinea and Mali in 2017-18 to deepen her learning.
