Kristin’s class is a highly physical and rigorous exploration of contemporary technique. Class will begin with a meditative body scan and improvisation exercises; first finding articulation of the spine, pelvis, and torso bringing focus to the alignment of the body, then moving with ease and dynamic energy. Large energetic phrase work will have a constant play with gravity; going in and out of the floor, upside down and traveling though the space with fierce abandonment.

Next, Kristin will guide you through improvisation exercises that are designed to familiarize yourself with your body in motion. You will explore articulation of the spine, pelvis, and torso, all while finding momentum through movement. Class will progress into large energetic phrases that integrate the whole body. Kristin’s approach learning technique is focused on finding alignment of the body, then moving with ease and dynamic energy. Her classes are in constant play with gravity; moving in and out of the floor, going upside down and traveling through the space with fierce abandonment. Kristin believes that class builds a strong community where you can learn, sweat, and dance it out together. Class is typically danced barefoot.

About Kristin Damrow

Artistic Director Kristin Damrow grew up on a rural farm in Wisconsin before studying in Chicago where she earned a B.A. in Dance from Columbia College. Since moving to San Francisco in 2010, she has been commissioned by the Oakland Museum of California, Airbnb Design and the DIRT Festival. She is also a resident artist at Iowa State University, and has taught master classes at New York University Tisch School of the Arts, Columbia College Chicago, Gibney Dance, and the University of San Francisco. Damrow is a faculty member at ODC Dance Commons.
