Classical ballet is the mainstay and technical foundation of Alonzo King LINES Ballet Company, Training Program, BFA at Dominican University and LINES Dance Center. The integration of balance and harmony; the cultivation of intuition and practical thinking, and the development of artistry and character, are the goals. Ballet technique is viewed not as a style, but as a science of movement based on natural laws which govern the mechanics, shape, and movement directions of everything that exists. Classes explore ballet through a multi-faceted approach of somatics, alignment, strength, placement, vocabulary in marriage with artistry, ritual and expression. The Ballet classes are designed to be taken in this order: • Introduction to Dance and Ballet (complete novice) • Basic Ballet (knowledge of ballet terms) • Beginning Ballet (some skill and confidence-for experienced beginners) • Advanced Beginning Ballet (still a beginner but wanting a challenge-most students in this class are experienced) • Intermediate Ballet • Intermediate/Advanced Ballet (advanced dancers only) • Professional (advanced and professional dancers-dancers must be able to demonstrate professional level ballet level) Ballet Pointe is ideal for adults who wish to pursue pointe work. It is designed for individuals who are on pointe and wish to build their strenght. Students who are not on pointe may participate; class exercises specialize in correct placement of the body.
