Classical ballet is the mainstay and technical foundation of Alonzo King LINES Ballet Company, Training Program, BFA at Dominican University and LINES Dance Center. The integration of balance and harmony; the cultivation of intuition and practical thinking, and the development of artistry and character, are the goals. Ballet technique is viewed not as a style, but as a science of movement based on natural laws which govern the mechanics, shape, and movement directions of everything that exists. Classes explore ballet through a multi-faceted approach of somatics, alignment, strength, placement, vocabulary in marriage with artistry, ritual and expression. The Ballet classes are designed to be taken in this order: • Introduction to Dance and Ballet (complete novice) • Basic Ballet (knowledge of ballet terms) • Beginning Ballet (some skill and confidence-for experienced beginners) • Advanced Beginning Ballet (still a beginner but wanting a challenge-most students in this class are experienced) • Intermediate Ballet • Intermediate/Advanced Ballet (advanced dancers only) • Advanced Ballet (advanced dancers only) • Professional (advanced and professional dancers-dancers must be able to demonstrate professional level ballet level)
