Born and bred in Chocolate City D.C., "Daktari" Shari R. Hicks, Psy.D. is an Oakland-based dancer, choreographer, clinical/forensic psychologist, and sakhu djaerist (spiritual liberator and illuminator). In 2015, Daktari received her foctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies in SF and published her doctoral dissertation, A Critical Analysis of Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome: A Multigenerational Legacy of Slavery. Daktari is the creative/artistic director of Daktari Dance Medicine Collective, a melanated community of Afrodiasporic descendant dancers, storytellers, and musicians who tap into varied paths of African diasporic movement (dance) and music (drum/percussion) to evoke sakhu djear, spiritual liberation and illumination.
