Intro to Contortion

About this class

This class will spend 1-hour focusing on improving passive and active leg flexibility, and 1-hour on improving back flexibility and working on basic contortion skills such as chest stand, forearm stand and hand stands. Students also learn personalized exercises that can be used to increase flexibility outside of class time. Students should already be comfortable in splits, able to go to bridge from standing and back up. Students are expected to come at least 30-minutes early to warm up. Prerequisite: Instructor Approval. Approval can take several days and can be obtained 3 different ways, instructions can be found here: http://circuscenter.org/faq#training03

About this class

This two hour class spends 45 minutes on leg flexibility, and 75 minutes on back flexibility and contortion tricks. Students build on what was learned in Intro to Contortion, and work on improving endurance as well as building personalized contortion/flexibility training routines. Contortion 2

About this class

Grounded in Mongolian-based contortion technique, this class focuses on building routines for stretching, movement through contortion poses, and higher level contortion skills. Contortion 2 is designed to build endurance and develop flexibility and strength. This class spends 30-minutes on leg flexibility, and 90-minutes on back flexibility and training tricks. Students start working on poses such as Triple Fold and handstands while refining the skills learned in Contortion 1. Students should have previous contortion training and be comfortable with cheststand, forearmstand, and oversplits. Students are expected to come at least 1-hour early to warm up. about Catie Brier

Catie has been a resident of San Francisco for over 8 years. She began her training at Dance and Circus Arts of Tampa Bay over 13 years ago, where she studied dance and contortion. During her time there she trained under choreographer Debra Brown and contortionist Laurence Racine. Upon moving to San Francisco she started training with Master Lu Yi at Circus Center. She went on to train with Mongolian contortionist Serchmaa Byamba and began performing all around the United States. She's been seen performing with companies such as Quixotic Fusion, Circus Bella, Trapeze World and New Pickle Circus. Throughout her career Catie has developed a passion for not only teaching the art of contortion but also inspiring people to push the limits of their bodies.
